China has so many kinds of instant food nowadays. Kai Xiao Zao Instant Rice or 开小灶自热米饭 is another one! Kai Xiao Zao means Open a small stove but this “stove” needs only a heating pack and ice water which is so convenient la. I usually just submerge it with tap water until the water line and add some ice cubes. I don’t think Singaporeans know Xiao Zhan, famous for starring in the popular drama, Untamed. :x I think the packaging which has his face printed on it is one of the reasons this is selling so much.
I bought the sliced beef in hot chili oil flavor which has generous slices of beef. Boiled beef tastes very good. Beef should be sirloin, which is soft, very tasty but salty, but it is delicious to eat with rice! This comes with black fungus, and Bamboo shoot slices mixed in as well.
The rice in the small stove is north-eastern. After it is cooked (add water as required), the grains of rice are distinct. There will be no strange ‘plastic feeling’ like self-heating rice.
How to cook this:
1) Unpack and take out the rice.
2) Pour the rice and condiments into the bigger section of the white tray.
3) Add water to the rice till the marking.
4) Place the main dish into the smaller section of the white tray.
5) Put the heating pack into the plastic box at the bottom of the self-heating rice, then add an appropriate amount of cold water over the heat pack till the marking.
6) Cover the box, take care not to burn your hands, and then put the heating box on top of the vegetable bag
7) After the self-heating rice has cooled down completely, open the box, and then tear off the heated vegetable bag, and then Pour in the rice and stir a little.
Overall, the taste is not bad and with phase 2 heightened alert happening now, I was motivated not to go out to packet food so I decided to stay in the office to have this! Gotten this from shopee.
