Yea I decided to review the second of graphic author Gene Luen Yang's boxer rebellion books for young adults. The book is called "Saints" and is by an American born Chinese writer examining a tempestuous period in his nations history The boxer rebellion was a modern day warfare of rural people trying to fight progress and tis book gives a more truthful tale than the book titles Boxer" by the same author and he follows a young girl who converted to Christianity. Yang makes her out to be some disgruntled nut who thinks she talks to Joan of Arc. This is the bias of a Gene Luen Yang who somehow thinks these boxers were patriotic when they were no different and as vile and violent as the anti-Chinese lynch mobs on the California coast some decades before. As with boxers this is a violent book that has many decapitations and sword impalements showing the random violence and attacks this quick rebellion of extermination was all about.
The sudden quick response of foreign alliance into these regions to deal with these spontaneous murderers called the Boxers was both quick, necessary, and brutal, Over a hundred thousand Chinese Christians would be massacred in the Boxer Rebellion but Gene Yang bypasses much of this in his two books on the subject. Without the foreign intervention the Chinese Christians would of ll been exterminated in a brutal fashion much like kirishitan were all killed off in Japan. bypasses much The Boxer rebellion was also kicked off from climatic drought devastation that caused many people from the countryside to the cities and have to beg Christians for food but in realaity the xenophobia of the Chinese peasants to changes they couldn't stop pretty much lead to this Boxer crisis and rebellion that didn't help their country prosper as it could back then. 
Gene Luen made some good jingle and helped to bring this conflict to light though in these thought provoking books that looed at the growing diversity of populations and ideas and the backward attempts to stop progress.
