Essence little lip collection

Beach Jazz by Tom Jarmey ft Mar Blu
A blast from the past that has not changed much ... It's not every day, that I go back to a product range when the word on the street (internet) is that the product has regrettably not been improved upon. Yes, the fickle world of beauty can sometimes be all about a constant race for betterment, where it doesn't take long for both good and bad formulas to be quickly brushed by the wayside, for a new range filled with ample promising alterations and buzzwords.

Well, this time round a seeming misfortune for some was great news for me. I really adored essence shine-on lipsticks old formula so hearing that the formula was depressingly unchanged, invigorated me enough to shimmy on down to a Wilko and try two more shades from the range.

What I found did not disappoint. I even had to wait in a little queue to see these shine on lipsticks ... Well, when it got around to my turn I did not waste time and chose 10 Rosey Glitz that I had already made up in my mind to buy (after seeing beautiful swatches from these peeps - Matejay Beauty Blog, The Beauty and The Blonde, Giselle Arianne) and 05 Spicy Latte.
Heres the old and new packaging - Old on the left and new on the right. The old packaging is a lot more simple the new is slightly curved and pill-shaped and the colour cap really reflects the product colour well. I really like the new makeover.

Alright, now its time for swatches etc. I decided to swatch all the lip products I have from essence including some lip liners I forgot about and all the older products from my past explorations - just to be helpful because there ain't too many darker ladies swatching these on blogs (where my peeps at?). Yet, at least on the Youtube front, darker skinned and black beauties are swatching/testing and showcasing their wares (can I get a yas!) - Ami Fullest, Nicole Khumalo, Nompumelelo Mtshali, ZeeXOnline, Beauty Music and ore By Sweet Angel, Anouscha Nathie, Asanda Majole etc. (there are many more).  Of course, there are really great videos from lighter skin tones that swatch shades like Jill Snow White etc. so feel free check out the plethora of swatches available that may help you make up your mind about what you might want to try from the brand.

Lipsticks

Be Happy: A fresh watery red which gives a delicate hint to the lips. I went to the store with the intention to buy a back up of "like a princess"  but, I purchased this instead and I'm glad. This is so easy to wear as a subtle lip shade with or without makeup and I adore the name. Yeah, Be Happy!

Like A Princess: This was the first lipstick I bought from Essence which really got me. It's a fresh lively dewy pink. The formula and scent of the "Colour Up Shine On Lipsticks" are very similar to Mac Cremesheens (though they're a tad sheerer).

Velvet Matt: Confusingly Velevt Matt is not matte but a lightweight, vibrant and pigmented soft dewy purple. The formula is moisturising and soft-ish so sadly it broke relatively early after purchasing and thus put me off using it for the longest time which is a shame because the shade is bodacious (broadening vocab).

Rosey Glitz: Is a pinkish brown. On lighter/pale skin tones it comes across as a slightly reddish warm brown but, on my dark skin, it's a milky pink. I was nearly not going to get it when I saw it in real life at the store vs the online swatches because I was really hoping for a brownish red/pink hue but, I'm glad I got it anyway (well my sister gifted these to me - thanks sis). It's a really pretty colour and great for a natural effortless subtle pink nude lip.

Spicy Latte: A gentle creamy brown. Perfect for a flesh/brown toned nude. I couldn't resist this promising shade and it definitely delivers for being an effortless and easy wear for dark skin.  I adore it and recommend it highly if you're looking for a dewy brown.

Lip Liners

The essence lip liners I've tried are creamy, pigmented and smooth. I don't really have too many because the shades are usually on the lighter scale (dusty pinks) and the browns (that I'm interested in) are often out of stock or tampered with. So, I only have two reds and a clear from my outings. From what I've experienced, these lip liners are soft and creamy enough to apply on the entire lip comfortably and are not drying. I've chosen to show how they look with other products but, they can be used on their own nice enough so don't be afraid to experiment.

13 Transparent: is really transparent. So transparent that I had to use a lipstick to attempt showing you any difference it makes. On the left side of the pic, I filled my lips in with the liner and on the right side, I left it bare. Visually I don't think there's much difference but, the liner did give more substance to the lightweight lipstick.

08 Red Blush: A smooth deep red. I lined my lips with it and then applied Maybelline 610 Naked Star (behave) to the inner part. I think it makes a pretty combo though I'd blend it more/fully if I were to wear it out.

14 Femme Fatale: A vibrant orange-red. Once again, I mixed it with Naked Star lip gloss by Maybelline but this time I blended it out completely to make a gentle pink shade.

Phew, that's it!
